This procedure is a reversible gastric sleeve, making it a better choice than the non-reversible standard gastric sleeve. The standard gastric sleeve requires removal of over 2/3 of your normal stomach. The SLIMMS Lifestyle procedure does not remove your stomach, making it reversible.
The gastric sleeve is also well known to cause heartburn and reflux. Alternatively, the SLIMMS Lifestyle procedure is designed to treat both heartburn and reflux while helping you lose weight.
This procedure combines the gastric sleeve and gastric bypass into one operation. People dealing with obesity in combination with serious metabolic conditions including diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, PCOS and sleep apnea have their best chance of a cure through a surgical procedure designed to be a one-and-done treatment for all of these conditions.
During this procedure, Dr. Quebbemann corrects your gastric bypass anatomy and adds the gastric sleeve procedure for an all-in-one operation to maximize your results. For people experiencing weight regain, or other complications after gastric bypass, this procedure may be your best option.
S.L.I.M.M.S. stands for Surgically Limit Intake Manage Metabolic Syndrome. Pioneered by Dr. Brian Quebbemann, this novel approach to weight loss surgery attempts to maximize the positive impact of prior bariatric operations without increasing the risk of malnutrition.
The SLIMMS Lifestyle Procedure is for any patient that is looking for a weight loss procedure and is also concerned about heartburn. This procedure is also designed for people that don’t want to have their stomach removed, making it a reversible weight loss option.
The SLIMMS Metabolic Procedure is for any patient that qualifies for a Gastric Sleeve or Bypass and is also concerned about treating metabolic conditions such as diabetes.
The SLIMMS Revision is for patients who are unsatisfied with the results of their Gastric Bypass.
The S.L.I.M.M.S.® Procedures are only available through Dr. Brian Quebbemann in southern California.
No. There are literally thousands of people in North America who have undergone gastric sleeve and, after developing complications, were converted to a gastric bypass. These people now have both the sleeve and bypass; however, they did not have the two procedures performed at the same time.
Medications do not typically result in the same amount of weight loss as surgery. When people need to lose more than 50 pounds, surgery has a higher rate of success, and therefore I do not recommend weight loss medications if someone needs to lose more than 100 pounds. I have had patients lose more than 300 pounds with surgery and keep it off!
Published studies say there is no increased risk.
Yes. Scientific studies have shown repeatedly that metabolic complications occur at a higher frequency in people with only 20-to-25 pounds of extra weight.
Yes. Yo-Yo dieting can be psychologically damaging and can cause metabolic problems when people lose lean muscle mass and then regain only fat. The result of repeated weight loss, followed by weight regain, is a shift towards a higher percentage of body fat and a decrease in your metabolism.
No. Liposuction removes a small amount of fat for body contouring purposes. It does not result in permanent weight loss. The fat removed by liposuction typically returns at a different place.
No. Weight loss surgery does not guarantee permanent weight loss. Weight loss surgery is designed to be a one-time surgical procedure to decrease appetite and make people feel full with small meals, helping them make simple changes to their diet resulting in permanent weight loss.
